Freshreview was born from founder Bhavya’s stint at a women's startup program at IIM-Bangalore. Bhavya had entered the program with a different startup idea but changed tracks mid-program when she discovered the pitfalls of missing founder-market fit. Coming from a tech product background at Singapore and Oracle, India, she eventually chose a problem that could be solved with technology.

During her interactions at IIM, Bhavya realized founders in her cohort were building great products but faced tough competition from big players. “Being new entrants, they had negligible brand presence online. There were no reviews to build brand credibility among potential or prospective customers,” says Bhavya. This marked the beginning of Freshreview.

While online D2C businesses have mushroomed, getting social proof gets routinely deprioritized as getting reviews from each customer is a painful process. Moreover, a major chunk of the sellers’ time and energy is consumed with inventory management and other activities. Without social proof, prospective customers end up abandoning their shopping carts.

Freshreview, launched in early 2020, helps to make review-building a seamless and automated process. With every order the vendor ships, the customer is prompted to leave a review across platform of choice - Facebook, Yelp, or TrustPilot.

Apart from building social proof through different channels, Freshreview offers tools that enable customized brand messaging. This helps business owners to turn negative feedback into consistent positive experiences.  

After extensive research, Bhavya initially started building a product for local businesses. These businesses (both in India and global markets) were extremely dependent on customers within a 3-5km radius. As the pandemic forced businesses to go online, the logical progression for Freshreview was to integrate the app with a platform that facilitates online store creation.

Bhavya says her understanding of building a Value Saas product/business has grown after Upekkha. It pushed her to focus on the problem from the customer's perspective. “I joined at a stage when I had no clarity on how to solve the problem from the customer's perspective. I didn’t know how to build a business around the problem. Now, I am ready to upscale, do value-based pricing and prioritize,” she says.  

Further, as her understanding of the inner and outer flywheels grew, her focus shifted from day-to-day firefighting to building a Value Saas startup. “Each of the experiments executed helped me understand the problem from a much deeper perspective. Yet I have to constantly communicate about the value my product drives. I have to convey its user-friendly aspect to the customer. I am still learning the ropes to enhance user experience and retain a particular customer,” she says.

Customer satisfaction and subsequent positive feedback have been high points in Bhavya’s journey. “It has been gratifying to see customers get tremendous growth in reviews within a few months of using Freshreview,” she says.

Building patience to handle difficult customers who complain yet stick with Freshreview as paying customers, has been a learning curve for Bhavya. “The journey has been wonderful. I have taken the ups and downs in my stride. I am now ready to scale up. I am not afraid to dream big,” she says.
